Article 9
The Japanese Constitution
Promulgated on November 3, 1946
Came into effect on May 3, 1947

Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.

In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.

    Peace and sustainability are the pressing issues for the survival of all species on this earth. We believe that peace can only be achieved through peaceful means.
    The experience of Hiroshima and Nagasaki taught us that the use of violent force such as nuclear weapons would only lead to the catastrophic collapse of civilization on this planet.
    We invite you to join us in promoting the spirit of the Article 9 as a step towards achieving a world without violence for us and generations to come.
